Portable Appliances Testing Training

Importance of TTS Training Services courses in PAT

Used in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, PAT or portable appliance testing is a method for checking portable electrical appliances on a regular basis in the workplace to ensure that they are well maintained and safe for employees to use. In the UK, it is to mainly comply with the 1989 Electricity at Work Regulations for businesses to maintain the safety of their employees and to demonstrate with evidence that all plug-in, hand-held and portable electrical appliances undergo regular maintenance.

There are several advantages to implementing PAT in the workplace, including:

  • Possibility of accidents reduced
  • With regular maintenance of appliances, less money is spent on repairs
  • PAT training gives employees new skills
  • Cost savings and flexibility, because the PAT process once learnt is implemented in-
  • house by existing employees at their convenience throughout the year
  • Improvements to quality standards and productivity within the organization

Portable appliance testing courses to teach employees the requisite skills to maintain appliances in their work environment are essential. TTS Training Services offers a first class one day In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment training course at either one of our UK training centres or in house for up to 16 employees. The small number allows all students to benefit from the training. For the in-house course, all that you need to provide is a room with an electrical outlet. What could be simpler! If you have a PAT tester already, we can train your staff in its usage. We can also advise on what type to purchase, if you don’t already own one. No electrical experience is necessary to participate in a course.

With a mixture of theoretical concepts and hands on experience with the tester, our informative quality-based
portable appliance testing courses cover electrical risks and dangers, types of appliances, safety, regulatory requirements, IET Code of Practice and how to record and assess the results of testing. The course with a higher than a 95% pass rate finishes with an open book multiple choice test and a practical assessment of electrical appliances. Successful students receive a training certificate and have the confidence to implement the PAT process in the workplace or to develop the necessary policies and procedures to support a PAT strategy that is risk-based. It's not essential to test all of your appliances every year to be compliant with regulatory requirements.

Don't delay be in touch with us today! We're the experts in PAT training and the sale of testers.
